Well another season has come and gone. The indoor season started at Moreton Morrell on Sunday 13th October. Looking forward to seeing members there. Please keep the editor upto date with the results, photos and write ups…
Our season finished with a “bang” as Emma Young and her team of ponies were crowned BC National Pony four in hand Champions. This was followed up by Peter going to the Beer Run in the New Forest with the Hallaton Shires winning everything before him. “Brilliant” Congratulations to Team Young.
Club events followed in abundance, some better supported than others. The cone and obstacle practice day was a full day at Hallaton, with Ken & Peter giving everybody the benefit of their experience. Course walking, discussions and then driving the cones & obstacles more than once saw everyone improving. Although when the combine in the field next to the obstacles it did look like things could get cut short, but all ponies carried on regardless. Highlight of the day was Linda Wiggin getting her wrists slapped in the cones as she gaily went round still in her baseball cap! Linda !! Who was going to be the brave sole toher to book, this fell to Peter… a brave lad…. A good laugh for everybody.
Welcome to new member Vicky Aldus from Kettering.
The Fun trial followed the training day. The weather was incredibly hot, that kind a weather seems a distant memory now does it not? But there was some good competition. Mary Fuller with her lovely Percheron a very good second in the novice with Rosemary Armstrong in 3rd. In the Open Darren Wall and Linda Wiggin tussled it out, with Darren taking the honours with a slightly faster round in the obstacles. Emma claimed the multiples red rosette, using the day as a practice run for the National Finals at Bywell. Clare was making a come back after Tony’s unfortunate layoff. Good to see them back in action taking second place.
Olives Fun day was the usual light hearted affair with a super tea at the end of the festivities and before prize giving. A lovely warm day and the level optional drive round the quiet lanes was very enjoyable. Marian and Linda shared the honours for the cones and handy pony with Vicky, Sue Lynch and Olive tussling for the other prizes. Many thanks to Olive for all her hard work putting this event on.
The last event of the season was the Indoor/Outdoor Trial at Solihull. The weather was starting to break, but we managed a largely dry day. Unfortunately and very sadly Darren and Louise had to withdraw on the morning as one of their old horses was found with colic, and they had to say goodbye to a very dear friend. Young Millie-Mae took the novice with Marian in second. The open/multiples saw Linda in the red rosette from David Smith and Peter with a pair of shires a very creditable 3rd.
Sadly the Scavenger Hunt scheduled for the 29th September had to be cancelled. Once again due to the lack of support, only one entry. Albeit the weather on the day was not playing ball so it was probably as well. These events will up for discussion in February as to whether we should continue to try and organise them, if it’s not what competitors want.
The next event on the calendar is “Vicky’s” Skittles Halloween and Supper night, on Wednesday 30th October at the Jaguar Sports & Social Club, Fenton Lane, off Browns Lane, Allesley, Coventry, CV5 9PS. (5 minutes off the A45)
